To a stirred solution of 4-(2,2-dimethoxyethyl)benzyl 3-((3-((S)-phenyl((((R)-quinuclidin-3-yloxy)carbonyl)amino)methyl)phenoxy)methyl)benzoate (0.100 g, 0.15 mmol) in acetone (5 mL) was added para-toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate (0.086 g, 0.45 mmol) and the mixture stirred at RT for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was diluted with saturated sodium hydrogen carbonate and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic extracts were dried (magnesium sulfate), filtered and the solvent evaporated at reduced pressure. The residue was used in the next step with no further purification.
