To a stirred solution of (S)-2-(5-bromo-2,7-dimethylquinolin-6-yl)-2-tert-butoxyacetic acid (17 g, 46.6 mmol) in DMF (200 mL) was added Cs2CO3 (30.4 g, 93.2 mmol), followed with the addition of iodoethane (11 g, 69.9 mmol) at room temperature. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours, diluted with water. The mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried and concentrated in vacuo. The obtained residue was purified by flash chromatography to provide the desired product. LCMS-ESI+: calc'd for C19H24BrNO3: 394.1 (M+H+); Found: 394.0 (M+H+).
