Procedure
A solution of methyl 4-(5-ethoxy-2-fluoro-phenyl)-6-isopropyl-pyridine-2-carboxylate (which may be prepared as described in Description 115) (0.72 g, 2.27 mmol) in THF (20 mL) was cooled to −78° C. under nitrogen and was treated dropwise with 1M DIBAL in toluene (4.54 mL, 4.54 mmol) over 10 minutes. The mixture was stirred at −78° C. for 2 hrs. The mixture was quenched with satd. aq. NH4Cl solution (5 ml) and the mixture was allowed to reach room temperature and stirred for 30 mins. Celite was added to the mixture and the mixture was stirred for 10 minutes and then filtered through Celite and concentrated to give 4-(5-ethoxy-2-fluoro-phenyl)-6-isopropyl-pyridine-2-carbaldehyde (D116) (0.57 g);
