Procedure

To a solution of 5-(5-bromo-thiophen-2-yl)-1-(2,4-difluoro-phenyl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole-3-carbaldehyde (9.1 g, 22.4 mmol) prepared in Step 5 and CF3TMS (5.7 mL, 38.1 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (100.0 mL), was slowly added a solution of TBAF (1.0 M, in tetrahydrofuran 0.5 mL, 0.5 mmol) at 0° C. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour and then a 6N hydrochloric acid solution was added thereto. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour and then extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed distilled water and brine, dried on anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and then concentrated under reduced pressure to give 9.9 g of the titled compound as a yellow liquid.
