To a solution of the alcohol 1.08 (480 mg 1.7 mmol) in 8 mL of DMF at 0° C. was added NaH (166 mg, 60% dispersion in oil, 4.2 mmol) and their reaction was stirred for 30 minutes at 0° C. p-Methoxybenzyl chloride (0.36 mL, 2.7 mmol) was added and the resulting mixture stirred at room temperature for 3 hr. The reaction was quenched with water, and the mixture was extracted with EtOAc. The combined organics were dried (MgSO4), filtered, and concentrated. The crude product was purified by flash chromatography (30-70% EtOAc in hexanes) to afford (R)-4-((R)-1-(4-methoxybenzyloxy)but-3-enyl)-1-((R)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethyl)pyrrolidin-2-one 1.25.
