A solution of cyclohexane-1,4-dicarboxylic acid monomethyl ester (1.053 g, 5.66 mmol) and triethylamine (800 μl, 5.66 mmol) in toluene (30 ml) was cooled to 0° C. and isobutylchloroformate (735 μl, 5.66 mmol) introduced dropwise. The mixture was stirred at rt for 30 min whereupon activated, powdered 3 Å molecular sieves (5 g) and N-hydroxyisonicotinamidine (705 mg, 5.14 mmol) were added. The mixture was heated under reflux for 18 h, cooled and filtered through celite. The solvent was removed in vacuo and the residue purified by flash chromatography (IH-EtOAc, 1:1) to afford the title compound: RT=3.20 min; m/z (ES−)=288.2 [M+H]+.
