Procedure
To a solution of 3-5 (0.5 g, 2.3 mmol) in 10 mL EtOH was added p-toluene sulfonic acid (50 mg) and the resulting solution was stirred overnight at room temperature Triethylamine (0.1 mL) was added and the solution was concentrated in vacuo. The compound was purified by flash chromatography using 80% EtOAc/hexanes to yield 0.4 g of 3-6 as a colorless oil. 1H NMR (400 MHz, acetone-d6): □ 4.2 (t, 1H), 4.1 (q, 3H), 3.9 (m, 1H), 3.7 (m, 2H), 3.6 (m, 1H), 3.4 (dd, 1H), 3.3 (dd, 1H), 3.1 (m, 1H), 2.3 (t, 2H), 1.3–1.7 (m, 8H), 1.2 (t, 2H).
