Procedure
5-Acetyl-1-isopropyl-2(1H)-pyridone was dissolved in CH2Cl2 (300 ml). The solution was cooled to −30˜−25° C. To the cooled solution were added 4N hydrogen chloride in dioxane (55.3 ml) and t-butyl nitrite (10.4 g) at −30˜−25° C. The temperature of the reaction mixture was raised to 20-25° C. The mixture was stirred at the same temperature for 3 hours. The precipitated crystal was collected by filtration, and dried in the air at ambient temperature, to give (1E)-(1-isopropyl-6-oxo-1,6-dihydro-3-pyridyl)(oxo)acetaldehyde oxime (14.0 g).
