Procedure
To a solution of 4-[4-(5-methyl-3-phenyl-isoxazol-4-yl)-imidazol-1-yl]-benzoic acid ethyl ester (1.50 g, 4.0 mmol) in THF (20 mL) was added a solution of lithium hydroxide monohydrate (0.5 g, 12 mmol) in water (10 mL). The resulting mixture was concentrated, acidified and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic extracts were dried with Na2SO4 and evaporated to afford the title compound (1.38 g, 99%) which was obtained as a light yellow solid. MS m/e=346.1 [M+H]+.
