Procedure

0.5 g 10% palladium on charcoal are added to a solution of 5.00 g 4,4-dimethyl-cyclohex-2-enone in 25 ml of ethyl acetate. The mixture is shaken under a hydrogen pressure of 25 psi for 3 h at ambient temperature. Then the catalyst is filtered off and the solvent is removed.
