Procedure
Potassium carbonate (4.15 g, 30 mmol) and allyl bromide (2.16 ml, 25 mmol) are added to a solution of 4-(5-fluoro-2-hydroxyphenyl)-2-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-trifluoromethyl-valeric acid ethyl ester (5.36 g, 15.84 mmol) in DMF (50 ml) while being cooled with ice. After 2 hours at 2° C. and after 2 hours at room temperature, the batch is poured into ice water and extracted with hexane-ether 2:1. The combined organic extracts are dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated by evaporation in a vacuum. Column chromatography on silica gel with hexane-ethyl acetate yields 5.7 g of the product.
