Procedure
2-{[(2-Methoxy-ethyl)-methyl-amino]-methyl}-3-methyl-3H-imidazole-4-carboxylic acid methyl ester (380 mg, 1.58 mmol) were dissolved in methanol (4.5 ml) and treated with water (0.39 ml) and lithium hydroxide monohydrate (80 mg, 1.89 mmol) and stirred for 18 h at ambient temperature. The reaction mixture is the carefully acidified at 0° C. with 1N hydrochloric acid and evaporated to dryness. The title compound was obtained as mixture with lithium chloride and used without further purification. Light brown solid (>98% yield by 1H-NMR). MS: m/e=226(M−H+).
