Procedure

A solution of 2-fluoro-4-hydroxynitrobenzene (5.08 g, 32.36 mmol), cesium carbonate (11.71 g, 36.24 mmol), benzyl bromide (4.31 mL, 36.24 mmol), and tetrabutylammonium iodide (50 mg) in N,N-dimethylformamide (50 mL) was stirred at 25° C. for 24 hours, diluted with water (200 mL) and extracted with ethyl acetate (3×). The combined organic layers were washed with water (3×) and saturated sodium chloride solution, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound (7.72 g, 97%). 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3): δ 8.10 (m, 1 H), 7.40 (m, 5 H), 6.82 (m, 2 H), 5.15 (s, 2 H).
