Procedure

3.9 g (0.015 mol) of 6-phthalimido-2,5-hexanedione, 3.1 g (0.02 mol) of β-alanine ethyl ester hydrochloride and 3 ml (0.02 mol) of triethylamine are stirred in 80 ml of glacial acetic acid at 50° C. for 8 hours and the mixture is worked up as in Example 27.
