Procedure

2-(2,4-Difluorophenyl)-imidazo[1,2-a]pyrazine-8-carboxylic acid methyl ester (prepared from general procedure B using 3-aminopyrazine-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester and 2-bromo-1-(2,4-difluorophenyl)-ethanone; 5.0 g, 17 mmol) was dissolved in DCM (30 mL) and MeOH (30 mL) and was treated with 1.0 M aqueous HCl (160 mL). The mixture was heated at about 105° C. for about 13 h, allowed to cool to ambient temperature, and neutralized with NaHCO3. The solid was filtered and dried overnight to yield the title compound (2.76 g, 70%): LC/MS (Table 1, Method b) Rt=1.9 min; MS m/z: 232.0 (M+H)+.
