A mixture of 2-bromo-7-nitro-1,3-benzothiazole (200 mg, 0.772 mmol), 2,4-dimethylphenol (0.093 ml, 0.772 mmol) and potassium carbonate (128 mg, 0.772 mmol) in DMF (10 ml) was stirred at 80° C. for 15 h. The mixture was diluted with water and extracted with ethyl acetate (AcOEt). The extract was washed with saturated NaHCO3 solution and brine, dried over Magnesium sulfate and concentrated under vacuum. The residue was purified by chromatography eluting with 10% AcOEt in n-hexane to afford 226 mg of the title compound.
