A mixture of 7-[(4-chlorophenyl)amino]-1-methyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-benzimidazol-2-one (0.27 g, 1.0 mmol), 4-methoxybenzyl chloride (0.17 ml, 1.20 mmol), potassium carbonate (0.21 g, 1.50 mmol) and N,N-dimethylformamide (1 ml) was stirred at 70° C. for 100 min. The mixture was diluted with water (20 ml) and extracted with ethyl acetate (30 ml). The extract was washed with water, dried over magnesium sulfate and evaporated in vacuo. The residue was flash chromatographed eluting with a 15% ethyl acetate/hexanes to give 0.39 g (quant.) of the title compound as a powder.
