Procedure

150 mg of 3-[2-methylthio-4-pyrimidinyl]imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine [1-3] was dissolved in 3 mL of chloroform and 169 mg of m-chloroperbenzoic acid was added under an ice-cold condition, and stirred for 30 minutes at the same temperature. The resultant solution was added with a saturated aqueous solution of sodium sulfite and a saturated aqueous solution of sodium hydrogen carbonate, and then was extracted with chloroform. The organic layer was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and then the insolubles were filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated. The obtained residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography, and 160 mg of 3-[2-methylsulfonyl-4-pyrimidinyl]imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine [1-4] was obtained as a colorless amorphous substance.
