Procedure
A solution of 8-(1.4-dioxa-8-azaspiro[4.5]dec-8-yl)-3-(trifluoromethyl)quinoline (Step 3, 0.19 g) in tetrahydrofuran (3 mL) was treated with 2N aqueous HCl (1 mL) and then stirred at 40° C. for 18 hours. The mixture was cooled to room temperature and concentrated on a rotary evaporator. The residue was taken up in CH2Cl2, washed with water and brine, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated on a rotary evaporator to give 0.11 g of the desired product as a yellow oil; MS (ES) m/z (relative intensity); 295 (M+H)+ (100).
