cis-3-Amino-cyclobutanecarboxylic acid ethyl ester hydrochloride (0.193 g, 1.35 mmol) was added to a solution of 4-[3-(4-isobutylphenyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazol-5-yl]benzaldehyde (0.333 g, 1.08 mmol), acetic acid (2 mL) and THF (18 mL) and stirred for 30 minutes. Sodium triacetoxyborohydride (0.500 g, 2.36 mmol) was added to the reaction mixture, stirred at room temperature for 16 hours, and concentrated in vacuo to give a white solid. The solid was triturated with water, filtered and dried to give the title compound (0.260 g, 55% yield) as a white solid.
