10 ml of 1N hydrochloric acid are added to 7.8 g of 3-[3-[3-(tert-butyldimethyl-silanyloxy)-3-(4-fluorophenyl)propyl]-1-(4-fluorophenyl)-4-oxoazetidin-2-yl]benzonitrile (13) in 200 ml of methanol, and the mixture is stirred for 12 h. Aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution is added to the reaction mixture, which is then extracted with methylene chloride. The organic phase is dried over magnesium sulfate, concentrated and purified by silica gel chromatography (ethyl acetate/heptane=1/3%→1/1).
