Procedure
To a solution of methyl 2,3-dihydro-6-fluoro-4-(2-(benzyloxyamino)ethyl)-4H-1-benzopyran-4-carboxylate (3.1 g) in anhydrous tetrahydrofuran at -78° C. was added a solution of 1-M lithium diisopropylamide (9.0 mL) in tetrahydrofuran. After 1 hour acetic acid (1 mL) was added, and the solution concentrated in vacuo. The residue was partitioned between ethyl acetate and 1N HCl, and organic layers washed with 1N HCl, saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate, brine, dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and evaporated to afford the title compound as an oil, 2.9 g. (1H NMR (CDCl3, 60 MHz): 1.9-2.5 (m, 4H), 3.2-4.6 (m, 4H), 5.0 (s, 2H), 6.3-6.8 (m, 3H), 7.3-7.5 (m, 5H).
