Procedure

2-[2-(2-Thienylmethylthio)ethylamino]-5-(3-pyridylmethyl)-4-pyrimidone is reacted with an excess of dimethyl(methylene)ammonium iodide in dimethylformamide at room temperature to give 2-[2-(5-dimethylaminomethyl-2-thienylmethylthio)ethylamino]-5-(3-pyridylmethyl)-4-pyrimidone.
