A mixture of 7.5 parts of ethyl 4-[[6-chloro-7-[(4-fluorophenyl)methyl]-7H-purin-8yl]amino]-1-piperidinecarboxylate and 150 parts of a hydrobromic acid solution 48% in water was stirred overnight at 80° C. The reaction mixture was evaporated. The residue was stirred in 2-propanone. The product was filtered off and dried, yielding 8.5 parts (100%) of 7-[(4-fluorophenyl)methyl]-8-(4-piperidinylamino)-7H-purin-6-ol dihydrobromide as a residue (compound 41).
