Procedure
To a solution of 9.7 g of the above-mentioned tetrahydropyran-2-yloxy compound 17a in 270 ml of methanol is added 115 mg of p-toluenesulfonic acid and the mixture is stirred at room temperature for 2 hours, and then 0.5 ml of triethylamine is added thereto. The resulting mixture is evaporated under reduced pressure, the residue is dissolved in chloroform, washed with water and a saturated sodium chloride aqueous solution, dried over sodium sulfate, and evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue is crystallized from chloroform-hexane to give 6.62 g of the titled compound 18a as needles, of which the physical constants are as follows. Mp. 143°-144° C.
