Procedure
The compound prepared in (1) above (339 mg) was added to 10 ml of 1N hydrochloric acid and heated under reflux for 1 hour. The mixture was cooled to room temperature, alkalinized with the addition of sodium bicarbonate, and extracted with chloroform. The extract was washed with water and saturated brine in this order, and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent was evaporated and the residue was subjected to silica gel column chromatography using hexane-ethyl acetate (4:1) as an eluant to obtain fractions containing the target compound. The fractions were concentrated to produce 190 mg of the title compound.
