According to the procedure described in Example 3, 142.4 g of compound (B) 3-[[1-oxo-6-[[(1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododec-1-yl) acetyl]amino]hexyl]amino]-2,4,6-triiodobenzoic acid trihydrochloride (0.15 mol ) are reacted with 83.4 g of bromoacetic acid (0.60 mol) in 750 ml of 96% EtOH and 250 ml of H2O. 72.7 g of 3-[[6-[[[4,7,10-tris(carboxymethyl)-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododec-1-yl]acetyl]amino]-1-oxohexyl]amino]-2,4,6-triiodobenzoic acid (0.072 mol) are obtained.
