8.9 g of 1,1'-carbonyldiimidazole are added to a solution of 10.7 g of 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-5-nitrobenzoic acid in 500 ml of dry tetrahydrofuran and the reaction mixture is subsequently heated to 65°-70° for 5 hours. It is then cooled to room temperature and a solution of 21.6 g of 6-aminohexyl-t-butylcarbamate in 50 ml of dry tetrahydrofuran is added dropwise thereto within 15 minutes. The reaction mixture is then heated to 65°-70° for 18 hours, evaporated, the residue is suspended in ethyl acetate, suction filtered and the suction filtered material is chromatographed on silica gel with acetone/methylene chloride (3:1). There is obtained [6-(4-hydroxy-5-nitro-m-anisamido)hexyl]-t-butylcarbamate of m.p. 145°-147° (from isopropanol).
