Procedure

To a solution of 4-[4-(5-Methoxy-2-methylindol-1-yl)phenyl]but-3-yn-1-ol (60 mg, 0.19 mmol) in methylene chloride (1 mL) at 0° C. was added triethylamine (54 μL, 0.39 mmol) and methanesulfonylchloride (18 μL, 0.39 mmol). After the solution was stirred at 0° C. for 2 hours, pyrrolidine (163 μL, 1.95 mmol) was added and the reaction was allowed to warm to room temperature overnight. After the reaction was quenched with water, the organic layer was dried over MgSO4, and concentrated. The residue was purified by HPLC to give the desired indole (2.8 mg). LC-MS (C24H26N2O calc'd 358) m/z 359 (M+H); 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) d 7.53 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 2H), 7.26 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 2H), 7.03 (d, J=2.4 Hz, 1H), 6.99 (d, J=9.0 Hz, 1H), 6.73 (dd, J=2.7, 9.0 Hz, 1H), 6.32 (s, 1H), 3.85 (s, 3H), 2.92-2.83 (m, 4H), 2.76 (m, 4H), 2.28 (s, 3H), 1.88 (m, 4H).
