Procedure
To a suspension of compound 3-(2-phenethyl-6-trifluoromethyl-pyridin-3-yl)-acrylic acid, methyl ester (1.46 g, 4.35 mmol) in THF (3 ml) was added a solution of 1 N-LiOH (6.0 ml), and the mixture was stirred for 3 hours at room temperature. The resulting residue was dissolved in H2O and then washed with EtOAc, acidified with 1N HCl to pH 1˜2. The solution was extracted three times with methylene chloride and then dried over anhyd. MgSO4 and concentrated in vacuo to give 3-(2-phenethyl-6-trifluoromethyl-pyridin-3-yl)-acrylic acid (1.37 g, 98%).
