A mixture of [8-chloro-3-(4-chlorophenylsulfanyl)-2-methyl-4-oxo-1,4-dihydroquinolin-5-yloxy]acetic acid methyl ester (0.26 g), N,N-dimethylformamide (5.0 mL), potassium carbonate (0.25 g) and acetic acid chlorodifluoromethyl ester (0.13 mL) was stirred at 80° C. for 17 hour. The mixture was diluted with water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined extracts were washed with saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution and dried over magnesium sulfate. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the residue purified by column chromatography on silica gel, eluting with a mixture of dichloromethane and cyclohexane (7:3 by volume) to afford title compound, 0.044 g.
