Experimental conditions analogous to those described for Step 1 of Example 60 were used with 5 g (40.93 mmol) of 5,6-Dimethyl-pyridin-2-ylamine and 8.2 mL (40.93 mmol) of 2-ethoxymethylene malonic acid diethyl ester to afford 10.61 g of 2-[(5,6-Dimethyl-pyridin-2-ylamino)-methylene]-malonic acid diethyl ester.
