Procedure

Piperazine (0.06 g, 0.72 mmol) was added to a solution of 3-benzyloxy-1-ethyl-6,7-difluoro-1H-quinazoline-2,4-dione (Example C, 0.2 g, 0.6 mmol) and triethylamine (0.17 mL, 1.2 mmol) in 30 mL of acetonitrile. The solution was warmed to reflux for 24 hours, cooled, and concentrated to a solid. The solid was dissolved in chloroform washed with 1N HCl, saturated NaHCO3, brine, and dried over magnesium sulfate. The solution was concentrated to give 0.13 g of the title compound as a solid, mp 166-167° C.
