1.15 g (8.33 mmol) of potassium carbonate are added to the solution of 0.90 g (1.67 mmol) of methyl 5-{[8-(benzyloxy)-1-methoxy-2-methylindolizin-3-yl]carbonyl}-2-[(trifluoroacetyl)amino]benzoate in 100 ml of methanol and 100 ml of dichloromethane. The mixture is stirred at ambient temperature for 20 hours. The yellow precipitate formed is filtered, washed thoroughly with water and dried, to give 0.61 g (83%) of a yellow powder.
