Ethyl 2-(7-(3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzyloxy)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrocyclopenta[b]indol-3-yl)acetate (28.6 mg, 0.059 mmol) was dissolved in dioxane (1.0 mL) and 1.0 M aqueous LiOH (0.166 mL, 0.166 mmol) was added. The solution was stirred at room temperature for 3 h before it was acidified to pH 3 with 1.0 M HCl and extracted twice with ethyl acetate. The combined extracts were dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the title compound (23 mg). LCMS m/z=458.3 [M+H]+; 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ ppm 2.12-2.24 (m, 1H), 2.61 (dd, J=17.0, 10.7 Hz, 1H), 2.73-2.89 (m, 4H), 3.53-3.63 (m, 1H), 5.19 (s, 2H), 6.86 (dd, J=8.6, 2.5 Hz, 1H), 7.0 (d, J=2.5 Hz, 1H), 7.24 (d, J=8.8 Hz, 1H), 7.82 (s, 1H), 7.94 (s, 2H), 8.33 (s, 1H).
