Procedure
A suspension of (R)-2-amino-3-[(S)-1-(4-fluoro-phenyl)-ethoxy]-propan-1-ol (R)-hydroxy-phenyl-acetate in EtOAc was treated with aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution and the mixture was stirred at room temperature until all the solid had dissolved. The phases were separated and the organic layer was dried over MgSO4. The solvent was evaporated to afford (R)-2-amino-3-[(S)-1-(4-fluoro-phenyl)-ethoxy]-propan-1-ol as the free base.
