To Pd(OH)2 (20% on carbon, 50% water wet) (30 mg, 0.214 mmol) and ammonium formate (557 mg, 8.84 mmol) was added a solution of 2,3-bis(3-fluoro-4-methylphenyl)pyrido[2,3-b]pyrazine (step 1)(307 mg, 0.884 mmol) in MeOH (3 ml) and the reaction mixture was heated to reflux for 5 h. A further portion of Pd(OH)2 (20% on carbon, 50% water wet) (30 mg, 0.214 mmol) was added and the mixture was heated to reflux for 6 h. The reaction mixture was filtered through Celite® (filter material) and washed with MeOH and EtOAc.
