A mixture of 6-chloro-5-fluoropyridin-3-ol (13.1 g), tert-butyl (chloro)diphenylsilane (27.7 mL), 1H-imidazole (7.25 g) and DMF (100 mL) was stirred at room temperature overnight. To the reaction mixture was added water, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layer were washed with saturated brine, and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/ethyl acetate) to give the title compound (29.5 g).
