Procedure

An oven-dried 50 mL one-necked round-bottomed flask was charged with compound 6a (0.036 g, 0.10 mmol) and THF (12 mL). HCl (5 mL of a 1 N aqueous solution) was added and the mixture was stirred at rt for 2 h. The consumption of the starting material was monitored by TLC (AcOEt/n-hexane 1:1). The reaction was basified to pH 7 by the dropwise addition of sat'd aq NaHCO3. The layers were separated and the aqueous phase was extracted with ether (3×15 mL). The combined organic layers were washed with brine (25 mL), dried over MgSO4, gravity filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure to provide 0.018 g of the title compound as a yellow solid in 57% yield.
