Procedure
A mixture of 5 g (0.022 mole) of 1,3-dioxo-4,8-dimethyl-2H-pyrrolo[3,4-c]quinoline (vii) (also known as 2,6-dimethyl quinoline 3,4-dicarboximide), 4.65 g (0.025 mole) of N-(2-chloroethyl) morpholine, 6.9 g (0.05 mole) K2CO3, and 50 ml of dry DMF was stirred and heated at 50° for 18 hours. The dark mixture was poured into H2O with stirring and the solids filtered; yield, 6 g after drying in vacuo.
