Procedure
The resulting 2-(4-methyl-1,2,5,6-tetrahydro-1-pyridyl)-3-methylbutanoic acid (7.0 mmol) is combined with (6-phenoxy-2-pyridyl)methyl bromide (7.0 mmol) and potassium carbonate (14.0 mmol) in 15 ml dimethylformamide, and the mixture is stirred at RT, under nitrogen, for 20 hours. The solution is brought up in ether, washed with water (3×) and brine, and dried over sodium sulfate to give (6-phenoxy-2-pyridyl)methyl 2-(4-methyl-1,2,5,6-tetrahydro-1-pyridyl)-3-methylbutanoate.
Workup
