5,6-Dimethyl-[2,3′]-bipyridin-3-ol (50 mg), 4-chloro-6,7-dimethoxyquinoline (168 mg), and 4-(N,N-dimethylamino)pyridine (92 mg) were dissolved in 1,2-dichlorobenzene (2.5 ml), and the mixture was stirred at 140° C. overnight. The reaction solution was cooled to room temperature, and the solvent was then removed by distillation under the reduced pressure. The residue was purified by thin layer chromatography using hexane-acetone to give the title compound (81 mg, yield 84%).
