A solution of 1.30 g (3.4 mMol) of 1-methyl-2-mercapto-benzimidazol-5-yl-carboxylic acid-N-phenyl-N-(2-ethoxycarbonylethyl)-amide, 0.52 g (3.74 mMol) of potassium carbonate and 0.66 g (3.4 mMol) of 4-bromo-methylbenzonitrile were dissolved in 40 ml of absolute ethanol, stirred for 4 hours at 60° C. and 16 hours at room temperature. Then the solvent was distilled off in vacuo, the crude product was taken up in 30 ml of methylene chloride, washed with 40 ml of water and dried with sodium sulphate. After filtration and distillation of the solvent the desired compound was obtained as a beige-white solid. Yield: 1.8 g (100% of theory), Rf value: 0.64 (silica gel; ethyl acetate)
