Procedure
Potassium carbonate (124 mg, 0.9 mmol) was added to a mixture of methyl 2-({methyl[(biphen-4-yl)methyl]amino}sulfonyl)acetate (100 mg, 0.3 mmol) and hydroxylamine hydrochloride (63 mg, 0.9 mmol) in methanol (3 ml). The mixture was heated to reflux for 18 hours. The mixture was cooled and partitioned between ethyl acetate and 0.1 M aqueous hydrochloric acid. The layers were separated, and the organic layer was dried (MgSO4), and the solvents were removed under reduced pressure. The residue was triturated with diisopropyl ether to give the titled compound as a colourless solid (88 mg).
