Procedure

N,N-Dimethylformamide (3 ml) was added to 6-methoxy-4-(2-methyl-quinolin-3-yloxy)-quinolin-7-ol (compound 352) (100 mg), potassium carbonate (125 mg), and (R)-epichlorohydrin (124 mg), and the mixture was stirred at 70° C. overnight. The reaction solution was cooled to room temperature, water was added to the reaction solution, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was washed with water and was then dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and the solvent was removed by distillation under the reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in dichloromethane (3 ml), trifluoroacetic acid (3 ml) was added dropwise to the solution at 0° C., and the mixture was then stirred at room temperature for 3 hr. The reaction solution was made alkaline by the addition of a 1 N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution, and the mixture was extracted with chloroform. The chloroform layer was washed with water and was then dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent was removed by distillation under the reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by thin layer chromatography using chloroform-methanol to give the title compound (24 mg, yield 76%).
