Procedure
A solution of 4'-acetamido-2-hydroxyiminopropiophenone thiosemicarbazone (5 g) and potassium carbonate (5.2 g) in water (40 ml) was refluxed for 24 hours and treated with activated carbon. The filtrate was acidified with diluted hydrochloric acid and the crystals which formed were recovered by filtration, washed with water and dried to give 6-(4-aminophenyl)-5-methyl-1,2,4-triazin-3(2H)-thione (2.69 g).
