10.3 g (0.077 mol) of aluminium chloride are added at 5 C. to a mixture of 23.0 g (0.07 mol) of 2-chloro-4,6-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3,5-triazine of the formula (108a) and 8.5 g (0.077 mol) of resorcinol in 150 ml of toluene. The temperature is allowed to rise to 20 C., and the mixture is then heated at 50 C. for 6 hours and at reflux for 24 hours. The cooled mixture is poured into 150 ml of 12% hydrogen chloride solution, and the crude product is filtered, washed neutral with water and then washed with methanol and dried to give a dark yellow product of the formula ##STR22##
