A mixture of 2.0 g of 2-(2-chloroethyl)-4,6,7,8-tetrahydro-5H-thieno[3,2-b]azepin-5-one, 2.1 g of 4-(5-methylbenzo(b)furan-3-yl)piperidine hydrochloride, 2.6 g of potassium carbonate, 1.5 g of potassium iodide, 20 ml of dimethylformamide and 20 ml of toluene was stirred at 80° C. for 8 hours and then poured into water. The toluene layer was washed with water, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and concentrated. The residue was recrystallized from ethyl acetate to give 2-(2-(4-(5-methylbenzo(b)furan-3-yl)piperidin-1-yl)ethyl)-4,6,7,8-tetrahydro-5H-thieno[3,2-b]azepin-5-one, m.p. 156°-158° C.
