Pyrrolidine (1 mL) was added to the 3-[1-[3-[(methylsulfonyl)oxy]propyl]-1H-indazol-3-yl]-4-[1-(2-naphthalenyl)-1H-indol-3-yl]-1H-pyrrole-2,5-dione (0.5 g, 0.975 mmol) in DMA (10 mL). The mixture was heated to 65° C. for 3 h, then cooled to rt. Water (5 mL) was added, followed by extraction with EtOAc (3×50 mL). The organic layers were combined, washed with H2O and brine, then dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated in vacuo to a dark brown oil. The oil was purified by flash column chromatography (97:3:0.3; DCM:MeOH:NH4OH) to afford Compound 85 (0.1 g, 18%) as an orange flaky solid. Compound 85 was dissolved in excess dilute HCl, then frozen and lyophilized to give the hydrochloride salt. 1H NMR (CD3OD) δ 8.22 (s, 1H), 8.01 (d, J=8.8 Hz, 1H), 7.89 (m, 3H), 7.49 (m, 7H), 7.00 (m, 2H), 6.64 (t, J=7.5 Hz, 1H), 6.39 (d, J=8.1 Hz, 1H), 4.47 (t, J=6.2 Hz, 2H), 3.44 (m, 2H), 3.07 (t, J=7.4 Hz, 2H), 2.82 (m, 2H), 2.16 (m, 2H), 1.93 (m, 4H). ES-MS m/z 566 (MH+).
