A solution of N-(4-fluorophenyl)-N-{2-(3-methoxyphenyl)ethyl}-2-{4-(phenylmethoxy)phenyl}acetamide (6.0 g, 12.8 mmol) in phosphorous oxychloride (130 mL) under nitrogen was heated to 80° C. After 20 hours, the reaction was cooled to RT and very slowly poured over ice with vigorous stirring. Ethyl acetate (500 mL) was then added and the layers were separated. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated to provide the title compound (4.61 g, 80% yield): ES-MS (m/z) 452 [M+H]+.
